Chris Hobart, from Houston, Texas, started playing chess at the age of 4 trained by his father, a long-time chess master. Chris played chess competitively throughout all of his scholastic career, including his three years of high school at the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas, where he trained in boxing. After a 5 year hiatus from tournament chess, Chris surged back onto the chess scene under the tutelage of head coach Alex Onischuk at Texas Tech University, gaining nearly 400 uscf rating points in less than 2 years, as well as tying for first place in both the Expert section of the U.S. Class Championships and the Houston City Championship. The idea of merging chess and boxing into a single match fits perfectly with his talents and he claims that chess boxing is going to be the next big international sport!
