Chessboxing combines chess and boxing, but not at the same time. Competitors alternate between 3 minute rounds of chess and 3 minute rounds of boxing, with a 1 minute break in between to take off/ put back on gloves.
Chessboxing starts with a coin toss. The winner of the coin toss gets to decide whether the match begins with a round of chess or boxing. The loser of the coin toss gets to decide whether they play as white or as black. The Chess game is played with 9 minutes per person and stops after three minutes. The game resumes after the round of boxing.
This makes for a maximum of 6 rounds or both chess and boxing. Competitors can win by CheckMate, Knockout, or decision. If the chess game ends in a tie, the player with the highest score in the boxing rounds wins. If there is a tie in both chess and boxing, then the player who plays as black wins.
